The Power of the People’s Movement Assembly: Organizing Intensive
Join Southern freedom fighters to share skills & techniques for organizing PMAs
In a time when our communities are resisting heightened attacks and building sustainable infrastructure, the PMA process is a useful methodology that has been tested and implemented across every frontline for over 15 years.
Since 2007, over 500 PMAs have produced shared action plans, people’s platforms, joint campaigns, initiatives, participatory budgets, and ongoing governance mechanisms for community power.
The SMA has facilitated Organizing Intensives as a space for Southern organizers to train up on skills and build relationships with peers across 13 states. We learn from each other, we deepen our skills and capacities, and we connect to the annual action plan produced by the SMA process.
This year, SMA members and anchors have committed to organizing PMAs to build our visions and shared strategies to bring to SMA10 in September. We will use the Organizing Intensive to support organizers to learn skills specific to organizing PMAs including facilitation, synthesis decision-making, political education, and fundamental organizing skills.
The Power of the PMA Organizing Intensive is free and open to all organizers, new to PMAs and experienced in organizing assemblies. We will gather virtually, but we encourage groups that already work together to gather in-person as pods (with shared public health protocols) to participate in the Organizing Intensive.
